LIFE OF BRIAN

Book In Memory

This outstanding paperback is an updated version of the book which originally came out in 1993. The journalist Patrick Murphy, a close friend of Cloughie and his family, has added his own personal memories following the sad death of the Master Manager.

The book offers a fascinating insight into the life of Brian Clough, with the updated sections describing at first-hand what it was like to be with the Great Man in recent years. Patrick Murphy worked with Cloughie for BBC Radio and also helped write his magazine columns. He conducted the last interview the Great Man ever gave. His final magazine article was completed over the phone while he was in hospital.

Writes Patrick: "He remained touchingly chuffed that our articles were so well received by the football public. He used to say, 'I don't know why they still want to hear from an old has-been like me,' and that wasn't false modesty. He'd say 'I've shot it with football,' but then he'd wrongfoot me - as usual - by saying, 'Have you got your tape recorder in the car? Come on, let's work.'"

The book also describes how, in recent years, Cloughie would watch football and cricket matches with his grandson Stephen. Writes Patrick: "Young Stephen loved drinking at the fountain of his grandfather's knowledge."

This is a must-have book for any true Clough fan. Patrick Murphy was one of the few journalists to enjoy a consistent working relatonship with Cloughie -- and his insights into a remarkable life are priceless.

The book costs 7.99 and the publishers are Robson Books.
